Are You Curious?

Posted by Josh Patrick

For most of us, being happy is something we’re very interested in doing. For me, it’s not only being happy but having a full life at all.

That means that being curious is something that I’m all in for. Do you consider yourself curious? If you don’t know, here are a few things you might want to think about.

Do you spend more time asking questions than giving your opinion?

Curious people ask lots of questions. They already know what they think and want to know what you think. If you find yourself talking more than you listen, you might not be a curious person.

Do you seek out people you don’t disagree with to have a conversation?

In today’s environment, it’s easy to find people you don’t disagree with. When you find someone like that do you run away or do you want to find out what they think and why they think it? Curious people put themselves in uncomfortable places to learn what makes people tick they don’t agree with.

How humble are you?

Curious people tend to be humble. After all, if you’re interested in what others say and think, you have to be focusing on them and not you. Humble people generally have a pretty good ego and don’t need to be at the center of attention. They are fine with letting others hold the middle and get attention. Curious people will be fine with sitting back and learning.

Do people tell you they just had the best conversation?

I always find this one amusing. When I travel, I almost always eat at the bar to have the opportunity to get into a conversation (a funny thing for an introvert to do).

I also often have something like this happen…I’ve not said more than ten or twenty words as a statement but have spent the last 30-45 minutes asking questions of the person sitting next to me. When it’s time for either of us to leave, they often say, “This is one of the best conversations I’ve ever had.”

Remember, I’ve said almost nothing and yet, the person I’ve been talking with thought this was a wonderful conversation. Why you might ask? It’s because they got a chance to talk about their favorite topic, themselves.

If you find that this happens to you, then it’s a good bet that you’re a curious person.

For me, being curious is a fun place to be. I get to learn a lot about the world and how other people think. Most of the time, it ’s a lot of fun and something I recommend for you to try.

After all, isn’t having a great life something that floats your boat? Why don’t you leave a comment below and let me know what you think curiosity and whether you’re curious or not.
