A challenge many people face is how to pass family values from one generation to another? Family Legacy Planning is designed to help you identify the important values and to help you design a strategy for passing those values to a junior generation, whether it includes your children or your grandchildren.
As we work with you on this area of your life, our goal is to help you recognize how Legacy Planning will make your life better. Then we develop a strategy that makes this planning possible. We often start with a conversation about the roles of coaches, mentors and Elders in the family planning process and help you inventory the individuals in your family who can fill the different roles.
Instituting this program often follows our Objective Review where we list potential action steps that you can take. Those actions steps allow you to choose which ones you have energy to pursue. When you write a 10 next to an action step, we understand you are likely to have enthusiasm for this item and are willing to take the necessary steps to start the process.
Legacy Planning focuses on dealing with the “stuff” that we gather in our lives. Family Legacy Planning, on the other hand, is more about how our families operate, rather than about the stuff we accumulate. We combine planning with your “stuff” and how you operate your family in order to provide you with a well-rounded plan that deals with both physical and intellectual capital.
Some areas that we often tackle in Family Legacy Planning are:
- Identifying the roles we play in our family.
- Creating a list of family members to act as coaches, mentors and elders.
- Understanding how management of assets and family operations integrate.
- Using E Money Advisors for storage of crucial documents.
- Developing maps that outline family roles.
- Planning for major family transitions. (Births, deaths, college, marriage, children and grandchildren)
- Developing funding sources for major family transitions.
