Pre-Retirement Planning

Most of us want the option to retire when we are ready.  Unfortunately, for many individuals the choice of when to retire will be made for them as a result of a lack of planning.  We believe that having a comfortable retirement needs some thought as to what retirement means and what are the resources we’ll need when we are ready  to retire.

Pre-retirement planning is defined as examining the possible contingencies, deciding which ones to plan for, and developing a plan that you “own” and one that reflects what’s important in your life.  Our belief is that our job is to help you make your life better.  We know that one of the ways we can do this best is by  helping you plan for the possible contingencies that could come your way, and developing goals that are flexible and from your point of view.

You are the expert on what you want.  Our job is to first understand your goals, and from those goals present you with ideas, tactics, and strategies that help you achieve those goals.  We believe that having a small menu of ideas is often better than having  too many choices. When we’re presented with numerous  choices of what we could do, we often  remain in a paralyzed state doing nothing because it’s impossible to choose.

We have three retirement planning beliefs:

  • Our job is to help make your life better.
  • You are the expert at what you want in your life.
  • We want you to stay in control and lead the planning process.

Some of the tactics and strategies we use for pre-retirement planning are:

  • Developing transitions that we expect in our life.
  • Creating a funding and investment strategy to fund our retirement.
  • Understanding how asset accumulation can be used to develop cash for retirement.
  • Developing a financial plan that includes our human life value for earning and risk
  • Having a dashboard available for tracking progress toward retirement goals.
  • Understanding other cash needs that will need funding in addition to retirement.
  • Integrating your financial needs with your life before retirement.
  • Reviewing your work retirement plan and  integrating it with your retirement needs.

Our job is to assist you in developing the pre-retirement planning.  If you decide this is something you want to do, we have developed best practices for helping create your plan.  One that not only has flexibility, but can also be changed if your needs change along the way.
