Using the word love in a business setting is something that we’re not supposed to do.  We’re not allowed to tell others that we’re motivated by love.  We’re not allowed to let others we know that we love them and we’re not allowed to use love as a motivating force.

At the same time, we do use love, even if we don’t admit it.  When you look at anyone who does great work, it’s because they love what they do.  Greatness doesn’t come from a belief that you have to do it.  It only comes from things you love.

Loving what you do is all about choice.  If you don’t love what you do, change your job.  If you don’t love what you do, think about changes you can make in your job.  If you don’t love what you do and you stay there it’s your fault.

In this country we all have the option to choose where we work.  If we don’t like our work we can change our job or even change our career.  It’s not easy, but no one who created anything great said it was easy.  It’s about focus and knowing what you love.

What if I don’t know what I love?  Not knowing is not only difficult, it’s sad.  Many of us never think about what it is that we love.  If you don’t know then you need to spend some time with yourself.  You need to think about what really excites you.  When does time stand still for you?

Think about the time in your life where time stopped.  What were you doing?  What were you thinking?  This is what you love.  This is where work doesn’t seem like work.  Now, you want to take this information and figure out how you can spend all of your time working at it and finding a way to get paid.

Greatness is just around the corner.  There is no secret to becoming great.  You have to spend a lot of time (over 10,000 hours) learning how to be great at your passion.  You will never spend the time unless it really is a passion.

Passion and love are the same thing.  If you love something you’re going to be passionate about it.  Admitting that you love something to yourself is good.  Admitting that you love something to others is even better.  Once you make a public statement about what you love, then magic will happen.

One of my favorite quotes comes from Goethe.  It’s at the end of a poem that hangs over my desk.  Whatever you can do or dream you can….begin it.  Boldness has genius power and magic in it.  And, you could add the word love.
